Lyon Airports reports record traffic in Q2 2018

Lyon-Saint Exupéry airport continued its increase in traffic, growing by 6.8% in the second quarter of 2018, with 2,891,478 passengers passing through its terminals.

The main driver of growth was international traffic, representing 68% of the overall traffic, with a growth of 6.8% compared to the previous year. Domestic traffic witnessed a growth of 4.6% over the same period. Low cost traffic continued its strong growth with an extra 13.1% of passengers.

These new results were most notably driven by the opening of 28 new routes in 2018. Amongst these new routes, 17 new destinations were offered and 11 current routes were strengthened. This was due to them being served by other operators, and also, because of the arrival of 4 new airlines at the airport. A highlight of this second quarter: the penultimate section of the new Terminal 1 was completed on 19th June. With its new walkway, new centralized bus station and new baggage delivery room, Terminal 1 continues to improve its capacity and its ease of use for customers.

In tandem with these growing figures, there was also a 2.2% decrease in the amount of distance travelled by each plane at the airports, thanks to an optimised fulfillment of flights. This was in line with the sustainable development targets of Aéroports de Lyon.
