Q&A: At the leading edge - Abdol Moabery

We speak to Abdol Moabery, President & CEO GA Telesis, LLC

Abdol Moabery is the founder, President and Chief Executive Officer of GA Telesis. A serial entrepreneur, Moabery is responsible for the start-up, organisation and development of GA Telesis. He has 30 years of direct experience in various disciplines in aviation varying from flight, lease and structured finance to logistics and maintenance. Moabery previously served as Executive Vice President of Aviation Systems International, Inc., where his responsibilities included oversight and management of worldwide operations. Prior to joining ASI, he was with C-S Aviation Services, Inc. where he was responsible for the sale and marketing of the company’s aviation portfolio assets.

Moabery and his wife, through their family foundation, are prominent philanthropists that have donated and directed millions of dollars to charitable causes that directly impact children and young adults.

Tell us briefly how GA Telesis is connected to the airline industry?

GA Telesis is a global provider of integrated aviation solutions serving the commercial aviation industry. The company’s extensive industrial ecosystem allows it to provide its customers with total solutions related to supply-chain, MRO, finance, aircraft fleet and technology solutions. Over the past 12 months, GA Telesis, along with its shareholder Tokyo Century Corporation announced over $2.5 billion in new capital initiatives surrounding component supply-chain, MRO services, financial and digital products. Considered a pioneer in the sector, GA Telesis serves over 2,000 customers on six continents worldwide.

What are your current capabilities in terms of MRO?

GA Telesis has significant MRO capabilities across its three MRO operations. The MRO organisation is split into two separate divisions: MRO Services and GATES. MRO Services has two unique operations – Component Repair Group Southeast (CRGSE), which has full scale repair capabilities of more than 4,000 parts for Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier and Embraer, and Composite Repair Group (CRG), which has similar platform repair capabilities for airframe composites and aerostructures. The principal focus of CRG is engine nacelle systems and thrust reversers.

Have you now entered the CFM56 maintenance arena?

GA Telesis Engines Services (GATES), based in Helsinki, Finland, has full repair and overhaul capabilities for the CFM56-5B, CFM56-5C, CFM56-7B and the CF6-80C2B engines. The facility has a test cell capable of testing engines up to 100,000 pounds of thrust.
The maintenance operation also has significant back shop capabilities to repair the engine components in-house. GATES maintenance philosophy is to only use genuine OEM components and it does not utilise PMA [Parts Manufacturer Approval] parts in its repair processes.

What’s the best approach for inventory management for small regional airlines?

There are several strategies airlines can use to minimise their cost but maximise their access to inventory. GA Telesis provides cost-per-hour programmes under its iGEAR brand for all variants of commercial aircraft including Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier and Embraer. Along with all its current technology fleet support programmes, the company recently started its first new technology A320neo iGEAR programme for a European based airline that has been extremely successful.

The company also has several inventory pooling programmes available along with its inventory leasing products. GA Telesis is the world’s largest lessor of new technology inventory in the world and has inventory leased to airlines on six continents. Our inventory leasing programmes provide airlines with maximum levels of inventory without the tremendous out-of-pocket initial costs often required to support an operator’s fleet. >>
